Dress Code

The purpose of a dress code is to facilitate education, not to inhibit any person's taste in attire or appearance. To help provide and maintain a proper environment where our students are safe and able to go about the business of learning, the School Leadership Council has adopted the following Dress Code Policy.

A. PANTS, CAPRI PANTS. SHORTS, SKIRTS, SKORTS
1. Must be worn to student's size and stature and not be too tight or form fitting.
2. Boys pants must be worn at the waist.
3. Pants and skirts must not drag on the ground.
4. Shorts, skirts, and skorts must extend beyond the student's fingertip length.
5. All garments must be hemmed (not rolled, stapled, pinned, or banded) and cannot be frayed or torn.
6. Skin tight and/or revealing clothing is not acceptable.
7. Only one pair of pants or shorts may be worn at a time.
8. Underwear must not show. Remember to consider your body movements.


B. SHIRTS
1. All shirts must have sleeves and must be worn to cover the shoulders.
2. Shirts must be worn to student's size and stature and not be too tight or form fitting.
3. Mesh shirts or see-through shirts are permitted only if proper shirt is worn underneath, see B1.
4. All garments must be hemmed (not rolled, tied, stapled, pinned or banded) and cannot be frayed or torn.
5. Shirts showing bare midriffs are not permitted.
6. Skin tight and/or revealing clothing is not acceptable.
7. Underwear must not show. Remember to consider your body movements.


C. OUTERWEAR (JACKETS, SWEATERS, SWEATSHIRTS, VESTS)
1. Proper shirts must be worn under all outerwear including sweatshirts.


D. SHOES
1. Shoes must have a closed toe with heel back or strap and be securely fastened to the foot.
2. Sandals, slippers, or any type of backless shoes are not permitted.


E. BELTS
1. Belts must not be longer than 3" larger than the waist size,
2. Leather strings or chains must not hang from the belt, including key chains and wallet chains.


F. HATS, SCARVES, CAPS
1. Only Hale hats may be worn. They are only permitted outdoors.
2. Caps. bandannas, hair nets, curlers, shower caps, scarves, hair picks, or combs must not be worn or displayed on campus at any time. Exceptions may be made for health or religious reasons.


G. MISCELLANEOUS
1. Any article of clothing, (including gang related apparel) jewelry, or paraphernalia in conflict with health and safety concerns, symbolizes profanity, violence, drug use, tobacco, alcohol, has a sexual connotation, or is offensive to any gender, religion, or ethnic group is not permitted.
2. Professional or commercial uniforms are not allowed (except where appropriate for Hale sponsored events).*
3. Hoop earrings must not exceed the size of a quarter.
4. Clothing that is, or appears to be sleepwear must not be worn.
5. Only prescription sunglasses may be worn.
6. Personal hygiene and good health habits are expected characteristics of all Hale students.


The administration and/or School Leadership Council reserves the right to modify the dress code in regard to any items which become associated with gang membership, affect the safety and/or security of the campus, or disrupt the learning environment
